Jack

Here is a painting of Jack! In the snow.
Happy life together, Scott and Leslie.
I'm in Florida, soaking up the sun, enjoying the beach, pool, parental attention and love.
Cheers!

What?

Really? It's been 6 months?

Well. I HAVE been painting! I survived the worst winter on record by painting an 8 piece bedroom set (very pretty), 2 closets (amazing!), and 2 bathroom vanities.

This lovely spring I have painted an entire covered porch from top to bottom (the best part being the icy skyblue ceiling) (well, there's one little place I can't reach yet, as you can see).

Seriously, I have just finished a painting which I'll post next week. I've been inspired by taking an online "Taking Flight" class by Kelly Rae Roberts http://kellyraeroberts/, and by having some cards accepted in a lovely gallery in Culpepper, Va http://www.saraschneidman.com/.

I woke up in the middle of the night thinking:
  • this blogsite needs a redo!
  • my website is in horrible disrepair
  • I have alot to do :)

So, stay tuned!

Cheers,
Susan

Ms Divine

Ms Bovine Divine is currently presiding over the Celestial Seasonings exhibit at the Mazie Jones
Gallery!
She is chillin, dressed in and surrounded by hand dyed shibori silks, seated in the NZ wedding umbrella which is suspended from the ceiling. Oh, yes, and those are Su San Fans behind her!
She is pleased with her new exotic digs.
Cheers,
Susan

Peace

I wanted to make a new painting for the Celestial Seasonings show; I started with the 36" x 36" canvas with music from Handels' Messiah and painted a big circle. At that point, I didn't know what would be in the circle, so I decided to take a walk with Gracie.
What did we find but this beautiful newborn calf, presenting itself for a Christmas painting.
Cheers,
Susan

Song II

This is a companion piece to "Song". It has undergone several transformations to reach this conclusion.

Gaggledelic

This is a 20" x 20" acrylic painting on wood support inspired by walks around Bass Lake, watching the geese swim amongst and below the waterlilies! This painting was just accepted in the Best of the Blue Ridge show, opening this evening in West Jefferson!
Cheers,
Susan

"What We Need is Here"

This is my 36" x 36" entry to a juried show entitled "Memory of Appalachia"...my version of a painted quilt.

Written in the top circle is a poem by Wendell Berry:
"What We Need is Here"

"Geese appear high over us,
pass, and the sky closes. Abandon,
as in love or sleep, holds
them to their way, clear
in the ancient faith: what we need
is here. And we pray, not
for new earth or heaven, but to be
quiet in heart, and in eye, clear. What we need is here."

Cheers,
Susan

Travelling Postcard Show

Here is a little postcard (4" x 6") which I made and donated to the Travelling Post Card show for the Arts Council.

Just a fun winged "lady" strutting her stuff on the back of a halleluia bird.

Cheers,
Susan

Jin Marc

Here is a 16" x 16" mixed media commissioned painting made for a baby-to-be-born in this the Year of the Ox. The request was to include the couple's current family of pets, 2 dogs and 3 cats, and that the calf be of the Belted Galloway breed.
So, we have my version of the Belted Galloway in a circle with the Pearl River representing the mother's home town in China. The little bird on the calf's back is made from piano music the father's mother sang to him as a child (Good King Wenceslas!) Oh, there are many little secrets hidden within the collage....and the 5 family pets are in some way included within the circle.
Cheers!

Prince of Peace

ah....my first post in 12 days!
This is my version of the manger scene, envisioning the curious noses of ox, camel and donkey.........and the light spreading into the darkness. We have amongst all the little dots of light, music from....yes, the Messiah.
Cheers,
Susan

New Year

Happy New Year, dear readers!
Here is my little lively New Year's calf to usher in 2009....fitting, I think, for the upcoming year of the cow.
So, for 2009, I am planning some changes; I would like to make some large paintings so I will not be posting so often....but please check back, as I will post whatever I am doing!
Plus, this means.....a big clean up is in order for the "studio"!!! Big job, there.
Love, and cheers,
Susan

charmed

This is a collage made using the wrapping paper and gift enclosure that came with my charm necklace from Rebecca. Oh, I added a little music butterfly and charm of my own.
Today, for you, happy birthday, Rebecca!
Cheers,
Susan
